We Are Each Created As Individuals with our own specific Genetics and our own specific Background

I really appreciate the word used in translation as “prescription,” (you will see below at ◆) with my medical background. God, as the great Physician (see Exodus 15:26, Psalm 103:1-3, and Mark 2:17), has an individualized “prescription” for each of us. That “prescription” is God’s purpose/intent for us, and our own individual purpose/meaning in life. The cognate permutation group definition for this“prescription” (what is “appointed” to us, our “allotted portion”) is:  

  • Impression הגג consider יקה weaken from age חקי my ordinance/prescription חקך your allotted portion cognate permutations (restrain/encourage). 

Though you might look at this continuum/spectrum of (restrain/encourage) as “one size fits all,’ it would be better interpreted as being individually tailored to each of our lives. My life allotment falls somewhere upon this continuum/spectrum. Based upon the sins I have lived out, I need to restrain certain aspects of my soul, and I might be an encouragement to others with that same sin. On the other hand, a person may be indulgent in many areas and primarily require restraint, toward one end of the spectrum. Another may already be quite restrained by life circumstances, a disability or whatever, and primarily need encouragement. But we must recall that each one is an individual, just as fingerprints are very individual 

We are, each of us, messengers/angels in the lives around us. We may encourage others in the way that we live, or we may be specifically called to encourage others, or to help others with restraint (this could be the uncomfortable position of confrontation). The LORD’s individual prescription for us, our purpose (which should be his purpose) is what God has fashioned as the plan for our lives. And God’s very personalized prescription will function as needed relative to the choices that we make in our own free will. Messengers come to us, and we go as messengers. I always think of the prescription for Yeshua/Jesus as well-described in Gethsemane, “Not my will, but yours.” His role was “to bear witness to the truth” (John 18:37), as painful as that was to be. The LORD gave him the strength to carry out his appointed mission.

Perhaps the one critical thing that we should be learning from this life lived on earth is this word הגג consider. We, beginning in our youth, that time of “coming of age,” should be carefully considering the consequences of our choices, our actions. It is a lesson that we should have learned as an infant and toddler. If we touch a sharp object or a hot surface, we will experience pain. If we don’t carefully get our balance in learning to walk, we fall. We are “learning to drive this vehicle,” our flesh/body. We are undergoing our “driver’s education.” We have to consider how large our vehicle is when we figure out how to parallel park between other vehicles. We have to consider our position as we meet an oncoming truck on a narrow bridge. 

This is our “body awareness,” which we might also consider as our “boundaries.” We can’t go around crashing into other vehicles all the time, nor do we want others crashing into ours. This is the learning process, and that must be based upon taking the time to הגג consider. Our tendency is to be “in a hurry,” to get to the point where we don’t even have to think about things, just doing things by habit, from the engrams in our brain we have formed by repeating things over and over. This is the most energy-efficient means for our brains to work. This is the “learning” process. 

But there is also a tipping point, a point where we begin to take things for granted. We discontinue “considering.” Another way to put that might be, we discontinue being considerate. We think only about getting to the endpoint without being aware of the boundaries (this is the “me, me, me”). Every other person in our lives also has their own “boundaries” or “body-awareness.” Each one’s boundaries are a learned process. But how does my choice/my behavior affect the next person? If I have descendants, what impact do my current choices/behaviors have upon their lives? Much of this we are learning/have learned the hard way.  We likely have a few scars, a few dents. But hopefully we have not “totaled” our vehicle or someone else’s vehicle. Hopefully we have not committed “vehicular manslaughter.” It may not even mean driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs; it might mean ”driving under the influence” of our own self-centeredness. I hurt others. Why have I not “considered?” If you looked at post 14. Synthetic Grasp of Life, why do we not learn early on, of the equal and opposite reaction?  Genesis 8:21 “… the imagination of man’s האדם heart is evil from his youth…” As God recognized this inclination in us, the cycles were instituted (Genesis 8:22) so as to avoid the repeat of the total annihilation of the flood. 

We can recognize the need for driver’s education in manipulating a massive moving vehicle like a car, or even more rigorous CDL training for eighteen-wheelers. But we don’t like the training of God’s statutes חק for our life in the flesh. Boundaries are not our favorite when the limits are put on us.

What are the boundaries? When do we “move ahead” and when do we “hold back?”

  • By the way, תן is the shortened, imperative form of the root נתן to give. (It occurs in this form because of the “weak” consonant נ dropping off at the beginning of the word.) The imperative form is the same usage as in English. You might take it as a command.

You might well notice in these two continuums a similarity in meaning – when we move ahead or when we hold back are a determining of limits, a measure that we must do in making our choices. And is it not interesting that in the two groups are “give” and “take?”

There is a great verse that helps to “say it all.” 

Exodus 16:33

33 And Moses said to Aaron, “Take קח a pot and give תן an omer (measure) of manna מן in it, and leave it before the LORD, to be kept for your generations.”

  • Know that מן also means”from.” May we recall that there is nothing that does not come “from מן” the LORD. It is for us to remember that of the encouragement we have received, we are to give a measure. And as in the restraint that he has shown us, we should also restrain ourselves. And … for your generations.

Our allotment in life, what is appointed to us, is the learning of the “give and take.” Where am I? What have I learned?

I believe that I have been much more likely to “take“ than to “give.“ Time to הגגconsider.
