- I ask you to ponder what these passages mean to you.
- I will share with you below my thoughts, but use your self-discipline for a few moments to exercise your inner self. It is in this sort of exercise, this “seeking,” that we draw closer to God. (My thoughts are after the photo. Feel free to agree or disagree. I’m forcing no one.) My thoughts are going to outline the steps I have gone through, but I will admit that, in addition to the methodical steps I go through, there is another “witness” to me, a confirming “inner feeling.”

❶ First, I ask you to remember that we found these verses that included the Hebrew phrase Which in your(pl.) Midst, אשר בתוככם, that we noted in doing a study of Genesis 35:1-15, the second time that God indicates to Jacob the name change to Israel, and in that passage God uses his name El Shaddai, אל שדי, God Almighty. Those of you familiar with the techniques we use here, the “cognate permutations” method we have deemed it, know that I would probably use שדי as a keyword to search in the passage. The first step in that process is to find the cognate permutations group to which שדי belongs, and its meaning: Impression קדשdedicated; holy צדק righteous שדי almighty; my field; breasts cognate permutations (necessary to prepare).
❷ Rather than list them all separately following the traditional translation (these are NKJV), I clustered them together so you might be able to see the message more clearly. If that doesn’t help you, read each one with its more traditional translation. The orange words/phrases highlighted indicate the meaning “necessary to prepare.”
❸ Then, with that as background, I shifted to another Hebrew word I was led to investigate recently. The connection in my mind was, the first investigation was “Which in your(pl.) Midst.” Since this is a plural “you,” my curiosity was whether this was also something individual. The word I have been digging into recently is עמדיwhich means “With me.” Hopefully we will spend a lot more time on this curious word in the future because traditional translations of this word seem to be all over the map. For now, we are simply using the same technique of locating the cognate permutation group and its meaning, and then investigating that same cluster of passages with that meaning. Impression כתאן like fig אדני my lord עמדי with me אתכם with you(pl.) cognate permutations (isolate to fulfill). Before going any further, I just ask you to see that in the same group are both Hebrew words meaning “with me” and meaning “with you(pl.).” To me, that was an encouragement.
❹ Next, I combined the two sets of meanings prominent in these passages, (necessary to prepare) and (isolate to fulfill). If we go back to Post 12. Levels of Meaning, and you recall that we are, in the PaRDeS concept, using several levels of meaning in this process; we’ve used hints to connect passages, we’ve sought to find some connecting themes, and we are in the “hidden” or “secret” level when implementing the cognate permutations method. That combining of these two phrases, to me gives the meaning, but it can be fleshed out by looking to the Peshat, the “simple” level.
❺ Now to look at the “simple” or more straightforward level and how it fits with these ideas of (necessary to prepare) and (isolate to fulfill). Look at the straightforward meaning in the different contexts (always need to recall context), for example, of the giving up of idols in the Genesis 35:1-15 passage. I share that here:




Notice in Scripture there is still a back-and-forth use of the names Jacob and Israel even after Genesis 35. Can you see in Genesis 35:9 why that might be?
✱ And maybe אלהים את might explain Yeshua/Jesus having said in Revelation to John that he is the Alpha and Omega, the Aleph and the Tav? Remember that the שin El Shaddai אל שדי indicates “what is” or “what should be.” See also that “Preacher” קהלת Solomon witnesses… Oh, by the way “saints” in the Hebrew Bible is חסיד. You might see “assembly” קהל in verse 11. What would be in קהל חסיד?
❻ Then it helps to look for additional witnesses to establish the “truth.” These are what we were taught as “thematic connections.” Once you have practiced regularly at doing this type of thing, it becomes much easier to “see.” I see two Gospel connections in addition to the passages we have already listed above: Both your Cross you are to carry (necessary to prepare) and your Log you are to remove from your eye (isolate to fulfill).
